PeaceJam and Pearson Foundation announces that Chautauqua Learn & Serve Charter School is named the 2011 winner of the Global Call to Action Challenge. The students learned of their accomplishment via a phone call from PeaceJam co-founder Dawn Engle when she told the group, "we are so proud of every one of you and we are so proud to honor you in this fabulous way."
The challenge encourages young people to document their service projects and achievements to extend the work of Nobel Peach Laureates like Williams, the Dalai Lama , Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu and many others. The Chautauqua Director Cynthia McCauley said, "a Nobel Peace laureate will work with us in Panama City to advance the causes that we hold dear," . The students, staff and volunteers will have the opportunity to work with Jody Williams, the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Terry Jack, president of the Chautauqua board of directors says, "Chautauqua is an institute that gives, and boy are we going to be able to serve more." With the help and support of the local community Chautauqua will use this award and the opportunities it presents to continue and address the needs of the local community, as well as helping to change the world.
